FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (JANUARY 26, 2015) – Care Resource, a South Florida-based nonprofit organization, along with Broward House, announces the launch of Positive Perspectives. This custom-made support group is for those living with and affected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), or most-at-risk of acquiring HIV. Positive Perspectives will include a series of strength-based discussions, led by peers and a clinical therapist. Beginning in January, the group will meet at Fusion in Wilton Manors (2304 NE 7th Ave.) every fourth Monday of the month from 6:30PM to 8PM.

Positive Perspectives will assist those dealing with adversity and struggling to cope with emotional pain, which often results from being HIV positive, or affected by, and at high-risk of acquiring the virus. Those affected may often rely on the temporary solution for decreasing pain by engaging in a cycle of drug abuse and relapse. Thus, this group will provide a safe atmosphere to connect with others and help find strength within the social support provided.

Positive Perspectives will benefit participants by following the principles of the twelve-step program, which is often used to guide those in recovery from drug addiction, alcoholism, or other behavioral issues. The program will offer unbiased support and present resources from numerous local organizations to meet the varying needs of every member. Positive Perspectives assumes that every member will not be at the same level in their change process, and does not intend to impose a particular belief system upon any participant.

“Healthcare encompasses the whole person. In addition to high-quality health care, our clients have an array of needs that can be addressed through group work,” says Tom Pietrogallo, Director of Psychosocial Services at Care Resource. “These groups’ help people feel more connected, to make sure that they are not alone and to ensure that their health is maximized.”

In addition to Positive Perspectives, Care Resource hosts an array of supplementary groups to further maximize the diverse needs of the South Florida community. Additional groups include, but are not limited to the Women’s Empowerment Group, Healthy Relationships Group, Hepatitis C Support Group, and Talkin’ T, a support group for the Transgender community.
