Youth
NET is designed to empower youth aged 13 to 18 with the information and
skills
to reduce their risks for substance abuse and HIV infection. Its
goal is to reduce, through the provision
of HIV Counseling and Testing, street outreach, educational workshops,
the risk
of substance abuse and HIV infection among youth between the ages of
13-18. The project also implements the Becoming A
Responsible Teen (BART) curriculum, an 8 session group level
intervention that
covers topics such as introduction to HIV/AIDS, risk reduction
behaviors,
decision making skills and community resources and how to access
them. All the workshop sessions are interactive and
contain activities designed to keep the youth engaged in the
educational and
skills building process. The Youth NET project is staffed by a Youth
Specialist
and a part-time peer educator. This program is funded by the Department
of
Children and Families (DCF).
