Youth
Health
Intervention Project (YHIP) is an HIV
prevention program in Broward County that aims to increase HIV/AIDS
awareness among young men who have sex
with men through
education and information.
In addition, this programs performs
confidential HIV Counseling and
Testing, promote
risk reduction behaviors and facilitate access to care and treatment
for those
who test positive for the HIV virus. Target population is
young men who
have
sex with men (MSM) under the ages of 24.
The program utilizes
a peer-based outreach intervention
model to target young men of color who have sex with men (MSM).
The outreach sites where
the program offers their services
are those in which youth gather, as well as public schools, colleges
and
university. Staff distributes condoms, Lube, educational materials and
information about HIV, Sexually-Transmitted Diseases (STD) and
substance abuse,
and invites the young men and their sex partners to be tested for the
HIV/AIDS
virus.
Linkage to care and
treatment for those clients who test
positive and referral services to those who are high risk negatives are
the
major services the YHIP program offers to their clients.
YHIP urges any youth who
are
interested in their services to
