Short
Term
Intervention is a program designed to address the
HIV prevention needs of three populations: Black/African American, MSM
(men who
have sex with men) and Hispanic. This program is funded by
United Way
of
Miami.
The Dade Community Foundation also
supports the MSM component of STI.
Short Term Intervention is
a mobile-based outreach
intervention model that focuses on outreach and HIV counseling and
testing to
ensure that these three target populations are educated about HIV/AIDS
and
become aware of their HIV diagnosis. STI strives, through the provision
of HIV
Counseling and Testing and outreach, to reduce the rate of new HIV
infections
and/or transmission of HIV among Black/African American, Hispanic and
minority men
of color who have sex with men in the Miami-Dade areas. The other goal
of this
STI program is to promote early intervention and facilitate access to
HIV care
and treatment among these three populations.
This STI program
distributes educational materials and
information about HIV, substance abuse and syphilis.
Additionally, linkages are made to
appropriate agencies for services as needed, especially those that test
positive for the HIV virus or are high-risk negatives.
