national health center week 2015

Each year, the second week in August is dedicated to celebrating the services and contributions of Community, Migrant, Homeless and Public Housing Health Centers. The theme for National Health Center Week (NHCW) in 2015 is “America’s Health Centers: Celebrating Our Legacy, Shaping Our Future.

While there are countless reasons to celebrate America’s Health Centers, among the most important and unique is their long success in providing access to affordable, high quality, cost effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people throughout the United States.

For National Health Center Week and throughout the month of August, coloring books and crayons were distributed throughout  Care Resource office lobbies, Moreover new pediatric clients without Health Insurance can receive a free comprehensive check-up and their required vaccinations for school including, but not limited to vaccinations for polio, chicken-pox, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR), DTap and Tdap (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis).  New pediatric clients can also receive a NEW back-to-school backpack. To redeem this promotion, one MUST first make an appointment. To make an appointment, call 305-576-1234 EXT: 470 (English) and 471 (Spanish).

To further celebrate, Care Resource participated in the Dade County Back 2 School Backpack Tour on Saturday, August 8th at Dorsey Park located on 1701 NW 1 Avenue Miami, FL with FREE HIV screenings using Care Resource’s Health Promotion Mobile Units.

These units offer free wellness screenings in conjunction with HIV Testing, such as glucose and cholesterol testing, and blood pressure readings. In addition, free rapid HIV testing, and condoms were available to all patrons. Clients who received any results requiring a follow-up visit, were linked to Care Resource’s highly-trained medical staff in a timely manner. Referrals and specific information to obtain additional assistance and support were provided as needed.

Care Resource is proud to use National Health Center Week as an additional way to raise awareness of the needs that exist in our communities regarding primary care and preventive health and to further speak out about our health center and the people and communities who rely on its services for healthy and productive lives.
