National Condom Week 2015

Did you know that every year in the U.S., there are 19 million new sexually transmitted infections (STIs), with young people ages 15-24 accounting for almost half of them? That’s why Care Resource encourages young people to “use a condom every time” — while giving them the tools to do so — are so critical!

National Condom Week is celebrated each year to remind us that one of the easiest ways to look after your health, and the health of your sexual partners, is to use a cheap, readily available form of contraception that also protects against sexually transmissible infections (STIs).

The beginning of National Condom Week started on Valentine’s Day.   Valentine’s Day was a day to say “I love you.” And there is no better way to express that than to use condoms so the romance has a healthy future.

To increase a condom’s effectiveness, users must choose the brand, size, and texture that is right for them. Storing condoms in hot places like the glove compartment, in a wallet, or a pocket, can decrease the condom’s effectiveness. Users should always check the expiration date before they purchase condoms. For condom shopping tips, refer to the condom guide below to ensure everything goes smooth in between the sheets. Sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs) are among the most common infectious diseases, with the U.S. having the highest rates of STDs in the industrialized world. A CDC study points to rises in syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia and states that “STDs cost the U.S. healthcare system about $16 billion every year.” These diseases are preventable with proper condom use.

At Care Resource, STD Testing is done for syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia, free of charge. In our Broward location, the test results are returned in 3-4 business days; in our Dade locations the results are returned in 2 weeks. Treatment options are provided as well as additional support services Moreover, Care Resource offers free confidential HIV counseling and testing to everyone. In addition to offering services at our offices, services are also offered through mobile units at several community locations.
