rebribbonaward

On Tuesday, April 28th, Beth Hayden – Senior Administrator at Behavioral Science Research presented Care Resource staff with a red ribbon plaque thanking them for outstanding performance for linking newly diagnosed HIV members of the South Florida community to the Ryan White Service System.

The plaque was presented at the Ryan White Provider Forum, coordinated by Behavioral Science Research –  the Quality Assurance provider for the Ryan White Part A program. Since 1975, Behavioral Science Research has been dedicated to finding intelligent, creative solutions to real-world problems in corporate management, new product development, public opinion assessment, and marketing.

Below are some extraordinary efforts that make such a recognition meaningful:

  • Steven Santiago, MD, Medical Director with Care Resource developed protocols allowing “Ryan White Part A” newly diagnosed individuals to receive their labs “on demand” reducing their wait times to antiretroviral treatment by more than half.  At Care Resource, clients can become authorized by Ryan White and on the same day, have their labs drawn so at their first appointment – the provider has sufficient information to an anti-retroviral prescription.
  • Health Promotion extended their office hours to test clients, provide results and link patients to other services.
  • Outreach, Anti-Retroviral Treatment and Access to Services (ARTAS) and Peer Staff perform extraordinary acts of caring every day so that community members feel both heard and cared. Relationships they build in the community act as a conduit to new patients. Oftentimes, they go out of their way to get ensure they obtain a proof of HIV, proof of residency for a client’s eligibility and more. They link the clients to medical service, requests for labs and Ryan White medical case managers the same day and more.
  • Medical Case Management staff – (including CSA’s) rearrange their schedules to accommodate walk-in clients who need eligibility determination and referrals right away.
  • Medical lab staff has successfully balanced scheduled labs to accommodate ‘on demand’ labs of new patients.

The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program works with cities, states, and local community-based organizations to provide services to an estimated 536,000 people each year who do not have sufficient health care coverage or financial resources to cope with HIV disease. Part A provides emergency assistance to Eligible Metropolitan Areas and Transitional Grant Areas that are most severely affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
