in
2004, IYHEP has one goal; to provide HIV prevention education,
confidential HIV counseling and testing to youth ages 13 to 22 that are
detained in various juvenile facilities in Miami-Dade county.
IYHEP implements a centers for disease control science based HIV
prevention intervention. That means this intervention has been
researched and proven to work. The name of this intervention is
B.A.R.T. (Becoming A Responsible Team). BART is an 8 session
intervention that is designed for community based settings.
These 8
workshops are the following;
After
receiving these 8 workshops these kids will kow alot about
HIV/AIDS and learn skills that will help them make better decisions.
Youths in these workshops will learn through role play , group
discussions and skill building excersices. Finally, this program
offers confidential HIV counseling and testing to all youth who want to
know their HIV status.
IYHEP is a project that is supported by the Miami-Dade department of
human services, the Alliance for Human Services and the United Way.
