If you are a
man who has had sex with other
men, HIP is the program for you.
HIP (Health Intervention Project)
is a mobile based confidential HIV counseling and testing program where
Peer Educators link MSM and their partners to HIV counseling and
testing, distribute educational material, condoms and other preventive
tools to them.
HIV testing counselors provide rapid testing (results in less than 40
minutes) to consenting clients. High risk negatives are linked to such
services as prevention case management or any concrete needs this
client may have. HIV positive clients are linked to HIV care and
treatment and other support services.
The second componend ot this project is implementation of the Centers
for Disease Control science based prevention intervention called POL
(Popular Opinion Leader) POL is scinece based because it has been
researched and proven to work in reducing high risk behaviors in the
MSM community. POL consists of three to four sessions where HIP staff
identifies, enlists and trains key opinion leaders to change risky
sexual norms and behaviors in the gay community.
HIP also performs free Syphilis testing. Program staff is equipped to
answer any questions about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases and
substance abuse. HIP is supported from a grant by the local Department
of Health and the United Way.
For more information about the HIP project, contact the Program
Coordinator at (305) 576-1234 or email us at hip@careresource.org.
