The Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is new and emerging with the goal of bringing the best in LGBT cinema to Fort Lauderdale and the Broward County community. It has grown into its own festival now consisting of 7 days in October and presenting 40+ feature length programs including shorts.

For the festival, on Saturday, October 18th, at the Classic Gateway Theater located on 1820 Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, Care Resource is sponsoring 2 films and will be giving 2 presentations – each before the film. In addition to hearing about this year’s White Party during the week of Thanksgiving, this will be an opportunity to hear about the expansion of Care Resource’s mission and medical services in Broward County to now serve as a center of excellence for all healthcare needs for the LGBT community there.

The first film, at 2:30pm titled “I Always Said Yes” is about an outspoken and articulate artist in a turbulent passionate time. It is a story of artistic integrity and disappointment, self-destruction, love, fortitude and musical comedy.

The second film, at 5:00pm titled, “Flag Football” is about a National Gay Flag Football League. It is the story of three teams and their journey through the tournament, and at the same time, the journey to define themselves as gay men AND athletes.

Through the White Party, for over 30 years, Care Resource have been able to raise millions of dollars for HIV/AIDS research, prevention, care and treatment services to individuals in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. The last 6 years have ushered in a real maturing for Care Resource. Their model of excellence has expanded to include not only those with HIV, but all of South Florida’s diverse LGBT and less privileged communities. Today, Care Resource is a full-fledged federally qualified community health center (FQHC) – a medical home for all those in need.

The Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is committed to its mission: To enrich, entertain and educate the public, encourage a sense of community through the presentation of international and culturally diverse film, video and other media that offer historical and/or contemporary perspectives on the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender experience.
