Participants from the communtiy are invited to engage in discussions about:

• Issues affecting PrEP education and implemenation in Black communities
• Paying for PrEP
• Overcoming medical racism and mistrust
• Biomedical research related to PrEP

According to Steven Santiago, M.D., Chief Medical Officer with Care Resource, “As a Physician Ambassador for the Florida Department of Health in Broward County, I am pleased to have been asked to moderate the panel discussion for the Broward County PrEP Summit to raise awareness and knowledge of the issues and challenges regarding the use of PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) to prevent HIV. When prescribed in conjunction with safer sex practices, PrEP has been shown to be over 90% effective at preventing HIV infection. I am excited to lend a hand to help improve the lives of our local Black population, a group that has been disproportionately affected by this treatable, but incurable, disease.”

The Broward County PrEP Summit is organiazed by the Black AIDS Institute. Founded in May of 1999, the Black AIDS Institute is the only national HIV/AIDS think tank focused exclusively on Black people. The Institute’s Mission is to stop the AIDS pandemic in Black communities by engaging and mobilizing Black institutions and individuals in efforts to confront HIV. The Institute interprets public and private sector HIV policies, conducts trainings, offers technical assistance, disseminates information, and provides advocacy mobilization from a uniquely and unapologetically Black point of view.
