Care Resource is awarded $500,000 by The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to fund capital improvements to its Broward facility located on 871 W Oakland Park Blvd, Wilton Manors, Florida.

Ft Lauderdale, FL (May 2, 2012) - The $500,000 award for the HRSA project entitled Health Center Hurricane Preparedness will begin in May 2012 and is scheduled for completion in April 2014. Capital improvements will be made to Care Resource’s facility so that this Federally Qualified Health Center will be able to provide uninterrupted medical care to members of the community during a hurricane or similar emergency situation.

Rick Siclari, Chief Executive Officer of Care Resource said, “We are thrilled to be selected to receive these funds for our Broward FQHC facilities. The population we serve includes many members of the LGBT and HIV communities, who have historically been marginalized, discriminated against, and suffer from stigma. It is vital that during a time of emergency, they will have uninterrupted access to health services in an environment where they are welcome, comfortable, and have developed significant trust. Safeguarding our facilities during a major storm will enable us to do this”.

“Kill AIDS” launches on APRIL 21st at the
pre-AIDS Walk Miami event on the Townhouse Rooftop

MIAMI, FL (April 5, 2012) – Care Resource is proud to present its newest HIV/AIDS information and awareness campaign appropriately entitled “Kill AIDS”.

Kill AIDS is an organic, grass-roots, youth-driven initiative born out of the University of Miami’s School of Communication’s annual PhilADthropy project. During this year’s 3rd annual PhilADthropy, 10 advertising and public relations students, guided by a faculty member, worked with Care Resource to develop and deliver advertising and other promotional materials for the campaign. The services were rendered during a 25-hour marathon work session that began at 11 a.m. on February 17 and ended at noon on February 18. The Kill AIDS campaign was unveiled by the University of Miami students for Care Resource at the end of the 25th hour.

This campaign flips the common (and often overused) statement “AIDS kills” into a powerful call to action that puts the responsibility of making a real change to the individual. Kill AIDS targets 18-34 year old “millennials” with facts about HIV/AIDS, information on preventing the spread of new HIV infections, and the likelihood of a cure for HIV in the near future. Unless personally affected by the virus, this age group does not feel a strong connection to the cause and, for the most part, is vastly uninformed. Kill AIDS aims to change that.

For instance, did you know …

More than 50% of new HIV infections are among those under 25 years of age[1].

An estimated 21% of people living with HIV in theU.S.are undiagnosed.

Every 9.5 minutes, someone in theU.S.is infected with HIV.

Gay and bisexual men continue to bear the greatest burden of HIV infection, accounting for an estimated 53% of new HIV infections.

African-Americans and Latinos are disproportionately affected by HIV and AIDS.

Women now account for 27% of HIV infections in the U.S.[2]

See Kill AIDS at work on April 21st at the Townhouse Hotel Rooftop, 150 20TH Street inMiami Beach at 9:00pm.

24th ANNUAL AIDS WALK MIAMI WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY, APRIL 22, 2012

Care Resource Welcomes Good Morning America’s Sam Champion as this year’s Grand Marshal

MIAMI, FL (March 15, 2012) – Care Resource is proud to present the 24th Annual AIDS Walk Miami: One Step Closer to a Cure on Sunday, April 22, 2012.

The 24th Annual AIDS Walk Miami is a 5K (3.1 miles) walk-a-thon fundraiser benefiting Care Resource and Food for Life Network. All funds raised from AIDS Walk Miami are used in Miami-Dade and Broward to help our diverse communities in need. HIV care and treatment is becoming increasingly effective today but new HIV infection rates in Miami-Dade and Broward still rank among the highest in the nation. With recent cuts in federal funding, many people living with HIV/AIDS in our community simply can not afford medical care and treatment and need our help.

AIDS Walk Miami is one of the oldest and largest AIDS walks in the country. This annual fundraiser helps make it possible for Care Resource to:

Serve over 18,000 client encounters

Deliver 40,000+ meals to home-bound clients

Perform 12,000+ HIV and STD screenings

Grow pediatric care and dental services

The Walk starts outside the Miami Beach Convention Center and ends at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens. Registration begins at 8:00am. The walk begins promptly at 9:00am.

If you have not already registered, please register online today at aidswalkmiami.org and begin your efforts to help those who truly need our support. It is only through your continued act of generosity that we are able to bring an end to this terrible pandemic.

Take one step closer to a cure Sunday, April 22nd on Miami Beach.

In August 2009, Champion anchored his first “20/20″ special, “Blown Away: Twisted Terror,” which chronicled the tornado that devastated Parkersburg, Iowa in 2008.
Before joining ABC News in September 2006, Champion spent 18 years at WABC-TV in New York where he was the most-watched weatherman in the tri-state area.
World AIDS Day is held on December 1st each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died from this disease. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day.

Why is World AIDS Day important?

Although HIV infection can be prevented, HIV transmission continues to occur at alarmingly high rates. There are over 33.3 million people worldwide living with HIV/AIDS. 1 In 2009 2.2 million adults worldwide were newly infected with HIV.2

Although HIV can be treated, many people infected with HIV do not have access to life-saving drugs.

Miami-DadeCountycurrently ranks number one in the nation, with the highest number of new AIDS cases per capita.

BrowardCounty(Fort Lauderdale) currently ranks number two in the nation, with the 2nd highest number of new AIDS cases per capita.

World AIDS Day is an important reminder to the public that HIV has not gone away. There is still much work to be done to increase awareness, prevention and treatment.

What should I do on World AIDS Day?

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for you to learn the facts about HIV and put your knowledge into action. If you understand how HIV is transmitted, how it can be prevented, and the reality of living with HIV today – you can use this knowledge to take care of your own health and the health of others, and ensure you treat everyone living with HIV fairly, and with respect and understanding. Click here to find out the facts.

You can also show your support for people living with HIV on World AIDS Day by wearing a red ribbon, the international symbol of HIV awareness.

World AIDS Day is also a great opportunity to raise money and show your support for people living with HIV. Whether you feel inspired to simply wear a red ribbon or want to volunteer your time or services, you will help make a difference in the ongoing fight against HIV / AIDS. — click here and find out more.
