Who Are We?
Care
Resource is a community-based organization (CBO) funded in part by the
Centers
for Disease Control (CDC) to participate in a nationwide effort to
prevent HIV
infection, re-infection and the spread of sexually transmitted
infections
(STIs). At the CDC, this partnership is identified as “The
Partnership for
Health” (PfH), and at Care Resource it goes by the name "DOCTALC",
which stands for “Doctors Talking About Lifestyles and Choices.” The
program
focus is to increase communication between HIV healthcare providers and
HIV
patients. DOCTALC targets all HIV positive men and women receiving
medical care
in Miami-Dade and
DOCTALC
is an intervention composed of a three to five minute intervention
between the
HIV patient and the HIV health care provider, and if needed, may also
include
an extended more intensive session with a counselor from the DOCTALC
team. The
patient’s individual risk reduction needs will dictate the topics in an
extended counseling session. The goal is to help patients understand
how they
can avoid the negative effects of re-infection and enjoy the positive
effects
of preventing further spread of HIV and other STIs.
DOCTALC
may stand for “Doctors Talking About Lifestyles and Choices”, but it
also
stands for a personalized direct approach to communicating about
sex. By
valuing empathy, listening, understanding, and above all, a non-
judgmental
attitude, DOCTALC staff can help you make better and safer choices when
it
comes to sexual behavior. It can also be a great support in your daily
living
with HIV. We invite you to take advantage of this wonderful program and
start
enhancing your life by making your best choices.
