Care Resource is honored to again join forces with the world community on December 1st to observe World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day has been observed every year on December 1st since 1988 and is a worldwide effort that draws people together in solidarity to pay tribute to the millions of people living with HIV/AIDS, raise awareness of the global impact of HIV/AIDS and celebrate victories that are allowing more people to live longer and healthier lives.

On World AIDS Day, Care Resource is offering testing through mobile units at several community locations. HIV Mobile Testing will occur with Walgreens at Congresswoman Frederika Wilson’s office (161 NE 54th St., Miami, FL 33137and at Florida Memorial University from 10am – 2pm and at Care Resource’s Midtown and Fort Lauderdale offices from 8:30am – 5pm. Care Resource will also be at the World AIDS Day Event at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus. It will take place from 11am-3pm in Wolfe University Center (WUC) Panther Square. A representative will be talking about PrEP – when taken consistently, PrEP has been shown to reduce the risk of HIV infection in people who are at high risk by over 92%.

Care Resource is putting HIV stigma firmly in the past where it belongs too. Care Resource has joined the #HIVNotRetro campaign on social media and passing out red-ribbons– as it is an internationally recognized way to show support and solidarity to the millions of people living with HIV. Care Resource will also be on the Rock Plaza at the University of Miami alongside the University of Miami’s Student Health Service raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, while encouraging people to get tested and fight stigma. The theme for the day is …. HIV Stigma: Not Retro, Just Wrong.

In addition to testing, Empower “U”, Inc. and Women Involved in Life Learning from Other Women (WILLOW) will be at Care Resource’s Miami-Dade office a 3801 Biscayne Boulevard speaking to women about HIV infection and transmission. WILLOW is a small group skill-building intervention for women living with HIV. The intervention emphasizes gender pride and informs women on how to identify and maintain supportive people in their social networks.
