NHCW-header

Each year, the second week in August is dedicated to celebrating the services and contributions of Community, Migrant, Homeless and Public Housing Health Centers. The theme for National Health Center Week (NHCW) in 2016 is “Celebrating America’s Health Centers:  Innovators in Community Health.”

In addition to their long history as health care homes to millions, Health Centers are also proud to celebrate over 50 years of service and continue to be ranked among the highest quality and cost effective care providers in the nation. Health Centers provide their services to all people, regardless of their ability to pay or insurance status.

While there are countless reasons to celebrate America’s Health Centers, among the most important and unique is their long success in providing access to affordable, high quality, cost effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people throughout the United States.

For National Health Center Week and throughout the month of August, new pediatric clients without Health Insurance can receive a free comprehensive check-up and their required vaccinations for school including, but not limited to vaccinations for polio, chicken-pox, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR), DTap and Tdap (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis).  New pediatric clients can also receive a NEW back-to-school backpack. To redeem this promotion, one MUST first make an appointment. To make an appointment, call 305-576-1234 EXT: 470 (English) and 471 (Spanish).

Immunization is one of modern medicine’s most significant public health achievements. Vaccines have eradicated smallpox, stopped wild poliovirus, measles, and rubella from being able to spread widely in the United States, and significantly reduced the number of cases of other diseases. Despite these efforts, tens of thousands of people in the United States still die from vaccine-preventable diseases every year.

In addition, on August 13th Care Resource is participating in the Orange Bowl Community Health, Wellness & Sports Festival. At this festival, more than 60 vendors will provide a variety of services and products including free health screenings, CPR and fitness instruction as well as interactive demonstrations. The fair will address the health and medical needs of the South Florida community, encourage youth and families to improve their eating habits and maintain a physically active lifestyle.

The event will feature live performances, activities for the entire family, music, games, raffle giveaways and various contests throughout the day. It is located at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex on 3000 NW 199th Street in Miami Gardens.

Also on August 13th, Care Resource is participating in Miami-Dade County Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson’s annual Fun Day Book Bag Giveaway & Health and Info Fair at Olinda Park located on 2101 N.W. 51 Street in Miami, FL.

Care Resource is proud to use National Health Center Week as an additional way to raise awareness of the needs that exist in our communities regarding primary care and preventive health and to further speak out about our health center and the people and communities who rely on its services for healthy and productive lives.

Through education, prevention, research, care and treatment and support services, Care Resource improves upon the health and overall quality of life of our diverse South Florida communities in need. Care Resource is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization and a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). We have four (4) facilities, including: Miami-Dade, Little Havana-(Miami-Dade), Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
